CNC Basics E-Course 4 | CAM | Learn CAM Video | CAD/CAM …

Here on the 4th day we talk about CAM. CAM stands for Computer Aided Manufacturing. During the CAM step of the CNC Process we use software to define how our CNC Machine should move.
There are a number of CAM Software packages on the market. They range from the inexpensive to expensive. Much of the cost depends on the number of Axis’s that the CAM Software has.
With the CAM Software we define things like stock, location, tooling, feed and speeds and the post processor we will use.
The post processor is very specific to our CNC Machine. It outputs g-code. We use the G-Code program in our control software next.

Tomorrow’s Lesson is CNC Control.

Im going for a level 3 machinist certificate right now, and will be starting CNC soon. setting the machines to different controls makes it better ? doesn’t it make things harder as well ?

well, in the beginning is hard, i am a mechanical engineer (specialized in making parts, the technologies=”stuff” in your replay, the G code is very simple, do not worry , you will find out that your boss it will be satisfied if you set all the cnc machines with different controls lathe or mils (the perfect operator )).

    being a cnc …
being a cnc operator, is it really hard? like with all the codes and stuff, been at school 2 weeks now, and havent really gotten much into programming

  • pm400:

    hello I am a cnc …
hello I am a cnc operator and a very good programmer . the best method to learn cnc Programming is to work with the machine lathe orr mill and after that learn programing you have to know about the materials (speeds amd feeds)
the most important thing is that the machine (not before 1988) DOSE HAVE A AUTOMATIC PROGRAMMING FUNCTIONS, LEARN THAT AND USE THAT. the best for me are fanuc and osai

    Hi I have a CNC …
Hi I have a CNC with a Centroid controller. I was wonderif anyone here would know of a good cad/cam program? I’ve checked out bobcad, but I’m pretty leary of them. They seem to be very desperate to sell them and they move there prices around and I just don’t like that. I would consider them, but I don’t know anyone who has used them. If anyone has used them and likes them please tell me and let me know of any cad cam programs that are worth looking into that are for a 3 axi’s cnc mill. Thanks

    Hello Efrain,

    Hello Efrain,

You are right, there is more opportunity on the programming side of things vs. the operator side.
The operator side can get boring too. You might run thousands of the same parts, loading and unloading them.
Programming is more brain work, but it helps to know the machines you are programming for.

    Hi my name is efrain

i`m starting a 5 month CNC course its 2 days in class and 2 days handson training 4 hours a day with a machine they`re going to teach me shop math, G-codes and blueprint reading

I know that plain CNC machine operators don`t make good money but i`ve also heard that if you know how to set up the machine, that it pays good money. Also if your good and writing programs and blueprint reading.
